Abdominal muscles assist breathing, flex and rotate the trunk, keep the torso straight, support the lumbar spine, and hold our digestive organs together. During the practice of these yogasanas we well exercise the entire group of abdominal muscles by creating mind-body while awareness. It is important to keep some points in mind while exercising the abdomen:
Abdominal Meditation Techniques
- Always initiate the movement from the centre of the body, just below the navel.
- The abdomen should be relaxed and not tense. This well helps you achieve speedier results.
- Keep the lower spine flat, not arched.
The asanas and meditations explained here are important and needs to be done 4 days a week. It is equally important to give your body adequate rest on the other days. What is also of importance is to supplement this routine with a diet that’s low in sugar, includes mono-unsaturated fats and enough fruits and vegetables. Follow this routine and you can start seeing results in just 2-3 weeks.
Regular practice of these poses will build and strengthen you abdominal muscles, and your back will be stronger and flexible too. Remember, you are working not just on your body but mind as well. The mind-body connect is the essence of yoga and the results show when this connect is achieved.
